In the afternoon of August 12, the 4th Jiangsu Science Lecture was held in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. Hosted by the Jiangsu Association for Science and Technology (JAST) and co-organized by the Jiangsu Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, the event was undertaken by the Talent Service Center of JAST, the Jiangsu Science Communication Center, and the Nanjing Association for Science and Technology. Academician Du Jiangfeng, President of Zhejiang University and member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was invited to deliver a special report entitled Quantum Technology and Future Industries. The report session was chaired by Academician Chen Jun, President of JAST and member of CAS. Present at the event were Liu Biao, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chairman of Jiangsu Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese; Yang Wenxin, Second-level Inspector of JAST; and Zhu Jun, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Chairman of Nanjing Association for Science and Technology, among others.

Academician Du Jiangfeng is a renowned Chinese physicist who has long been engaged in research on quantum science and technology. He has innovatively advanced experimental technologies in spin quantum physics, independently developed high-performance magnetic resonance experimental equipment, and achieved transformative magnetic measurement technologies with internationally leading sensitivity and resolution, which have been applied significantly in biomedicine, basic physics and other fields. He has been awarded the National Natural Science Award, the Ministry of Education's Natural Science Award, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation's Science and Technology Progress Award, and the Zhou Guangzhao Foundation's "Basic Science Award", etc. He has presided over projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Basic Science Center Project, Major Research Program, the Ministry of Science and Technology's National Key R&D Program, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences' Strategic Priority Research Program.

"In quantum science, a physical quantity is considered quantized if there exists a smallest indivisible fundamental unit, which is called a 'quantum'. Quantum science is likely to be the most important basic science driving the progress of human civilization in the 21st century." In his two-hour insightful report, Academician Du Jiangfeng, using vivid language, explained in three parts the profound impact of quantum technology on future industries in a simple and understandable way, covering quantum computing, quantum precision measurement, and the quantum scientific instrument industry.

He noted that quantum computing, as a long-term research goal, has broad application prospects. For instance, its supercomputing capability will provide revolutionary tools for the development of artificial intelligence, enabling exponential acceleration in learning ability and processing speed, which will help address the challenges of the big data era. Meanwhile, quantum precision measurement has already achieved initial industrial application and made progress in serving the frontiers of world science, the main economic battlefield, national major needs, and people's life and health, such as in the independent development and transformation of scientific instruments and new biomedical detection methods, though its great scientific and application potential remains to be further explored. The development of the quantum scientific instrument industry, in line with national major needs, will become an important focus for the transformation and implementation of quantum technologies in the future.

"Quantum technology development holds great scientific significance and strategic value. As a major disruptive technological innovation that impacts and reconstructs traditional technological systems, it will lead the direction of the new round of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation," Academician Du Jiangfeng looked into the future, hoping that scientists and technicians will work together to continuously promote quantum technology research, development and industrialization, apply their research findings to the cause of the country, and accelerate the realization of high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement.

This wonderful high-end popular science report benefited the on-site audience a lot. They said that Academician Du Jiangfeng's report, featuring strong scientificity and knowledge, not only deepened their understanding of quantum technology, but also enhanced their knowledge of its innovation and application, making them more aware of its profound impact on future industries and broadening their horizons.

The splendid report attracted nearly 300 participants from JAST, Jiangsu Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, Nanjing Association for Science and Technology, relevant provincial societies under provincial science and technology organizations, district-level associations for science and technology, and enterprise-based associations for science and technology. It is learned that this popular science report is also an important part of JAST's special action to popularize science on new productive forces.
